What is Axillary Hyperhidrosis?
Axillary hyperhidrosis is a medical condition characterised by excessive sweating in the underarms, often unrelated to heat or exercise. It can be a source of social embarrassment and practical discomfort, but it is highly treatable. More than half of affected individuals are never diagnosed and they may be unaware of treatment options available.

Over 90% of hyperhidrosis cases are primary (cause is unknown), with the remaining 10% due to secondary causes. With over 50% of cases affecting mostly the axilla, more than one-third of these cases find that it significantly affects their daily activities. There may be a genetic component as two-thirds of patients will have a positive family history.
Hyperhidrosis is suspected to be due to an overactive nerve input that stimulates the sweat (eccrine) glands, which can be addressed through various hyperhydrosis treatment approaches.

The treatment for axillary is generally very safe when administered by an experienced medical professional. However, as with any medical procedure, there are some potential risks and side effects patients should be aware of:
Mild Bruising or Swelling
Common and temporary, usually resolves within a few days.
Tenderness or Redness at Injection Sites
Typically short-lived and mild.
Temporary Muscle Weakness
Rare in the axillary area but may occur if the product spreads to nearby muscles.
Dryness or Compensatory Sweating
Some patients may experience increased sweating in other areas of the body as it adjusts.
Allergic Reactions (extremely rare)
Symptoms could include rash, itching, or shortness of breath. Immediate medical attention would be required.
Infection (very rare)
As with any skin puncture, there's a minimal risk of infection, reduced by following proper aftercare and hygiene.
Headache or Flu-like Symptoms
Occurs in a small percentage of people and is usually temporary.
Unintended Results
Such as uneven reduction in sweating, which can be addressed at a follow-up review.
