Hyaluronic acid is a natural component of your skin that keeps it hydrated and soft. With age, or due to the harsh environment (e.g. UV exposure), the hyaluronic acid content in your skin may decrease, and your skin may lose some of its elasticity and hydration.

Hyaluronic acid prevents our skin from becoming dry. Hyaluronic acid is present throughout our bodies. It can bind 1,000 times its own weight in water and thereby keeps our skin and other organs hydrated. With age, the skin gradually loses its content of hyaluronic acid. In addition, repeated exposure to UV radiation can break down the hyaluronic acid in our skin. The skin will become dry and less elastic, and you will start to notice the formation of fine lines and wrinkles. When the skin is dry, the skin surface will become uneven and that is the reason why it cannot reflect light as well and why you will lose your glow. Skin boosters work to help restore this loss in the skin.

Instead of being placed deep underneath the skin’s surface to alter facial shape or volume, Skinboosters are placed into the skin to hydrate and improve overall skin quality.

Skinboosters are a very soft, almost watery version of facial contouring products, without the ability to provide volume, fullness and lift. They also include vitamins and amino acids to improve skin texture, quality, and help with pigment.

Skinboosters stimulate new elastin to be produced that results in healthy-looking, glowing, and plump skin. Additionally, the needling technique used during treatment stimulates the production of new collagen during healing.

The great thing about skin boosters is that they are suitable for everybody (except pregnant or breastfeeding patients). Skinboosters can be used as a preventative measure for those in their 20’s, and as a treatment for those aged 30 years and above. The initial result will be visible within the first few days after treatment. This is due to the immediate hydration provided by the hyaluronic acid. Over the coming weeks, the skin will continue to improve as new collagen and elastin is laid down, providing increased structure and dermal thickening.

The benefits of skinbooster treatment improve over time as the product stimulates cell renewal and builds up collagen production deep within the skin. Full effects can be noticed 12 weeks following your first treatment.

It is recommended to have a treatment every 3-4 weeks for a total of 3 stages of treatment, followed by a maintenance treatment every 6-12 months. While benefits are visible after the first treatment, a course of 2-3 treatments is recommended to achieve the greatest benefit to skin texture and integrity and softening of the skin and fine lines. Results will continue to improve over 3-4 months.

• Bleeding/bruising occurs in a significant number of cases.

• Swelling in the injection area will occur. This may last for a few days.

• Infection is a very rare complication, but always a possibility

• Allergic reaction - a risk of any treatment

• Vascular occlusion (blood vessel being blocked by product, interfering with blood supply to the skin, causing skin necrosis). This could lead to scarring/permanent skin damage. Very rare with skin boosters.

• Need for further treatment

A numbing cream is usualla pplied to the area prior to the treatment (15-20 minutes prior is ideal). There is a local anaesthetic in the Skinbooster itself which provides additional comfort during the procedure. The procedure may have some mild discomfort associated. Ice can be used after the treatment to aid with pain, swelling, and bruising.

Skinboosters are injected via fine needles into the skin. Numbing cream is applied to the treatment area 15-20 minutes prior to treatment. The numbing cream is then removed, the skin is cleaned with alcohol swabs, and the product placed into the correct skin layer. Allow 45 minutes for treatment due to the time required for numbing cream to take effect.

For most patients, it is recommended to have a treatment every 3-4 weeks for a total of 2-3 stages of treatment, followed by a maintenance treatment every 6-12 months.

The price for treatment for Skinboosters depends on the amount of product required. Usually, each treatment area would require 1-3mL of product.

For example:

• Undereyes = 1ml

• Cheeks/mouth lines/acne scarring = 2-3mL

• Neck = 2-3mL

• Decolletage = 1-3mL

• Hands = 1-3mL
